TIL: ¿Qué te motivó a escribir Seers of Light? / What motivated you to write Seers of Light?

JD: Quería algo que pudiera darle a las personas (yo incluida) inspiración y pasión para seguir su corazón y encontrar su propósito.

I wanted to create something that would give people (myself included) inspiration and passion to follow their heart and find their purpose.

TIL: ¿Puedes decirnos 3 razones por las que deberíamos leer tu libro? / Can you tell us 3 reasons why people should read this book?

JD:

1. Mucho de mi corazón se fue en esto y me encanta compartir mi corazón.

1.-A lot of heart went into it, and I love to share my heart.

2. Eliges hombres sexys :)

2.- Your choice of sexy men. :)

3.- Los libros ofrecen un vistazo alternativo de la vida real, lo cual creo que necesitamos desesperadamente.

3. The books offer a real alternative look at life, which I believe we desperately need.

TIL: ¿Cuál fue el personaje más difícil de escribir y por qué? / Which character was the most difficult to write and why?

JD: Hasta el momento, de los dos libros, diría que William, simplemente porque él es el misterio más difícil de roer. El me mantiene de pie.

Out of both books so far, I would say William, simply because he's the toughest mystery to crack. He keeps me on my toes.

TIL: ¿Y tu personaje favorito, por qué? / And your favorite character, why?

JD: Anna, porque puedo ser tan torpe e impropia como soy realmente, a través de ella. ;) Anna, because I can be just as goofy and inappropriate as I really am through her. ;)

TIL: ¿A qué público está dirigido la Serie Light? / What audience is aimed the Light Series?

JD: A todos los que amen una buena historia de amor, que le guste el miedo y a todos los que quieran reconsiderar todo lo que piensan acerca de su propia existencia.

Anyone who loves a good love story, anyone who likes to be scared, and anyone who wants to reconsider everything they think they know about their own existence.

TIL: ¿Puedes decirnos más acerca de Whisper of Light? / Can you tell us more about Whisper of Light?

JD: Claro! Whisper of Light es la sequela de Seers of Light de la Serie Light, y continúa la historia de uno de los personajes principales del libro uno. El objetivo de la serie es mostrar a la gente cómo la vida de los personajes está toda interconectada y el destino de cada persona es igualmente importante, sin importar quiénes sean.

Sure! Whisper of Light is the sequel to Seers of Light in the Light Series, and it continues the story of one of the main characters from book one. The goal of this series is to show people how the characters lives are all interconnected and everyone's destiny is equally important, no matter who they are.

TIL: Háblanos de William. ¿Fue difícil crean a este misterioso hombre? / Tell us about William. Was difficult to create this mysterious man?

JD: Como dije antes, absolutamente! William me sorprendió desde el primer día. No lo había destinado a convertirse en lo que es, no había previsto los resultados de Seers para que tomara el camino que toma, y una gran parte de esto se debió al carácter de William. Realmente me hizo experimentar y aprender de él sobre la marcha, y aunque el no saber de antemano a dónde iba asustaba un poco, también fue lo que hizo que todo valiera la pena.

As I said above, absolutely! William surprised me from day one. I hadn't intended him to become what he became, I hadn't planned the outcome of Seers to pan out the way it did, and a big part of this was due to William's character. I really did experience and learn about him as I went along, and though the not knowing everything ahead of time was a bit scary, it was also what made it all worthwhile.

TIL: ¿Y qué acerca de Christian? / And what about Christian?

JD: Christian fue realmente difícil de escribir, también. Era tan de ida y vuelta, parecía bipolar a veces, y siempre tenía que tener en cuenta que su comportamiento era importante y tenía una historia propia. Nada es blanco y negro en la serie Light. Puedes pensar que conoces a un personaje, pero lo más probable es que hay mucho sucediendo allí que nunca hubieras pensado. Fue todo un reto demostrar a la gente a través de Whisper of Light que, a pesar de que William robó la atención en el libro uno, Christian realmente llega a ser un tipo increíble.

Christian really was hard to write, as well. He was so back and forth, so seemingly bipolar at times, and I always had to keep in mind that his behavior was significant and it had a history of his own. Nothing is black and white in the Light Series. You may think you know a character, but chances are there's a whole lot going on there that you'd never have thought. It was challenging proving to people via Whisper of Light that, despite the glare of William's stealing the spotlight in book one, Christian really did turn out to be an amazing guy.

TIL: Las portadas de ambos libros son hermosas. ¿Tú tuviste algo que ver en el proceso creativo? / The covers of both books are beautiful. Have you had anything to do with the creative process of the great covers?

JD: Honestamente, me acerqué a las portadas en gran parte de la misma manera que hice los libros. Di una idea general y luego me deslindé, tuve fe. De entrada el proceso fue largo, pero, en realidad me encanta estar sorprendida y conmovida por el resultado. He sido bendecida por tener talentosos artistas que trabajan en las portadas.

Honestly, I approached the covers in much the same way I did the books. I gave a broad idea and then released control, had faith. I gave input as the process went along, but, really I just love to be surprised and moved by the outcome. I've been blessed to have talented artists working on the covers.

TIL: ¿Cómo es tu proceso de búsqueda al crear una historia? / How is your research process when creating one story?

JD:¡Oh, depende totalmente del libro! Con el libro tres, por ejemplo, que estoy trabajando, creo que mis mayores retos a la investigación se producirán, porque una gran parte de la misma se llevará a cabo en otro país! Afortunadamente, sin embargo, tengo un conocido de dicho país, y me gusta mucho experimentar diferentes lugares a través de una buena investigación, así que estoy feliz de hablar con ellos y tomar notas y aprender!

Oh, it totally depends on the book. With book three, for instance, which I'm currently working on, I think my greatest research challenges will occur, because a big portion of it will take place in another country! Luckily, though, I have a consult from said country, and I really enjoy experiencing different places via good research, so I'm happy to talk to them and take notes and learn!

TIL: ¿Hay un proyecto en curso del cuál nos platiques un poco? / Is there an ongoing project of which you talk a little?

JD: Bueno, creo que es bueno mencionar que es mi meta combinar mis libros con mi música. Estoy a punto de iniciar el proceso de corte de un CD, mientras trabajo en el libro tres, lo cual me mantendrá muy ocupada! Sin embargo, la idea es extender mis alas y crear y compartir el amor e inspirar a tantas personas como sea posible con el tiempo que tengo en la tierra, así, me encantaría recorrer todo para ganarme la vida haciendo eventos musicales y libros.

Well, I think a good thing to mention is my goal to combine my books with my music. I'm about to start the process of cutting a CD, while working on book three, which should keep me really busy! But, the idea is to spread my wings and create and share love and inspire as many people as possible with the time I have on earth, so, I'd love to tour around all over for a living doing music and book events.

TIL: Si no fueras escritora, ¿qué otro trabajo te gustaría tener? / If you weren't a writer, what other job would you like?

JD: Músico. Definitivamente. La música y la escritura son igual de importantes para mí.

Musician. Definitely. Music and writing are equally important to me.

TIL: William o Christian, y por que? / William or Christian, and why?

JD: Me doy por vencida sobre jugar la tarjeta de diplomacia en este caso! HAHA. Yo diría que William, sólo por su personalidad, el más reservado en público, pero apasionado en lo privado, realmente me va bien. Me gustan las aguas tranquilas que son profundas.

I give up on playing the diplomacy card on this one! HAHA. I'd say William, just because his personality, the more reserved in public but passionate in private thing really suites me well. I like still waters that run deep.

TIL: Cosas favortas / Favorite things

JD:

-Olores. Dulce, el aire fresco del invierno, la lluvia sobre el pavimento en la primavera, las velas de manzana y mucho más.

Smells. (Sweet, crisp winter air, rain on the pavement in spring, apple candles and so much more.

-Música. No podría vivir sin mi reproductor de MP3

Music! I couldn't live without my MP3 player.

-El Océano. Sigue siendo mi sueño vivir ahí.

The ocean. It's still my dream to live there.

-Color: Celeste y turquesa.

Color: Light blues and turqoise.

-Bebidas: Tengo una debilidad por los refrescos de cola.

Drink: I have a weakness for colas.
