The Itzel Library (TIL): ¿Cuándo nace Lori Pescatore como escritora? / When born Lori Pescatore as writer?

Lori Pescatore: Siempre fui escritora. A lo largo de la escuela, el Inglés fue una de mis materias favoritas. Me encantó cuando tuvimos una tarea basada en la escritura creativa. Escribí fan fiction mucho antes del Internet. Era algo que siempre había querido hacer.

--I was always a writer. All through school, English was one of my favorite subjects. I loved when we had an assignment based on creative writing. I wrote fan fiction long before the internet. It was something I've always loved to do. 

TIL: ¿Qué le motivó a escribir  Human Blend? / What motivated you to write Human Blend? 

LP: Decidí que quería escribir un libro. Quería algo que reflejara mi amor por los libros y la lectura. Muchas veces he leído una historia y he pensado cómo, si hubiera sido mía, ¿qué habría hecho de distinto en la historia? Un día decidí crear mi propia historia en mi propio mundo.

--I decided I wanted to write a book. I wanted something to reflect my love of books and reading. Many times I have read a story and have thought how, if it had been mine, what would I have had happened in the story differently? I just decided one day to create my own story in my own world. 

TIL: ¿Puedes contarnos sobre tu novela?  / Can you tell us more about the novel?  

LP: Escapar de ellos había sido lo suficientemente difícil, ahora Laney necesita mantenerse oculta. Lo único que quiere es vivir una vida normal, pero ella no es una chica normal. Muy especiales y misteriosas habilidades, separa a Laney de los seres humanos con los que ella trata de mezclarse. Atormentada por recuerdos del sufrimiento que padeció a manos de sus captores, Laney cambia su apariencia y se esconde en un pequeño pueblo. Sus intenciones de escaparse se ven frustrados cuando aquellos de los que huía Laney, la encuentran. ¿Pueden sus nuevos amigos ayudarle, o el pasado esta destinado a repetirse?

--Escaping from them had been difficult enough, now Laney needs to keep hidden. All she wants is to live a normal life, but she is not a normal girl. Very special and mysterious abilities set Laney apart from the human beings with whom she tries to blend. Haunted by flashbacks of the suffering she endured at the hands of her captors, Laney changes her appearance and hides out in a small town. Thoughts of fleeing are thwarted when those from whom she was running find Laney. Can her new friends help her, or is the past destined to repeat itself? 

TIL: ¿Puede decirnos tres razones por las cuales la gente debe leer su libro? / Can you tell us 3 reasons why people should read your book? 

LP:

1. Si están buscando una nueva novela de fantasía/ciencia ficción con seres sobrenaturales no escritos previamente.

--They are looking for a new fantasy/science fiction novel with previously unwritten supernatural beings. 

2. Quieren una lectura fácil que les permita envolverse en la vida de individuos únicos.

--The want an easy read that lets them get wrapped up in the lives of unique individuals. 

3.Si quieren un toque de romance en una novela de fantasía.

--They want just a touch of romance in their fantasy novel. 

TIL: ¿Quién fue el personaje más difícil de escribir y por qué? / Which character was the most difficult to write and why? 

LP: Luke, el chico malo. Tuve que llegar hasta el fondo con los niveles de depravación para crear un hombre tan desagradable. Fue muy difícil y un gran desafío.

--Luke, the resident bad guy. I had to reach deep down to levels of depravity that created this very nasty man. It was difficult and very challenging 

TIL: ¿Y tu personaje favorito, por qué? / And your favorite character, why? 

LP: Mi protagonista femenina Laney/Julia ha atravesado un montón de cosas, pero aún quiere hacer lo correcto a pesar de los horrores que ha vivido, no deja que nadie la juzgue.

--My lead female Laney/Julie She has been through so much but she still wants to do the right thing despite the horrors she has lived, she does not hold anyone in judgment over it. 

TIL: Como lectora de libros juveniles y romance adulto, podría decir que el libro se orienta más en el último género, sinceramente. Pero qué mejor que el autor nos de su propio punto de vista. ¿A qué público está dirigido Human Blend? / As a reader of Young adult and adult romance, I would make the book more in the latter sense, frankly. But what better than the author to give us their perspective. What audience is aimed Human Blend? 

LP: Se considera un libro juvenil, pero para edades un poco mayores, por ejemplo quince años o más. Hay situaciones sexuales aunque nada gráfico y un poco de violencia. Los personajes son jóvenes y creo que apelan a ese grupo de edad. Human Blend tiene un atractivo crossover. Tengo niñas de trece que han leído la novela y adultos como de ochenta y tres que leyeron el libro y les encantó.

--It is considered Young Adult but an older Young Adult, say ages fifteen on up. There are sexual situations although nothing graphic and mild violence. The characters are young adults and I believe they appeal to that age group. Human Blend has tremendous crossover appeal. I have girls as young as thirteen that have read the novel and adults as old as eighty three read and love the book. 

TIL: Tengo entendido que Human Blend será una trilogía, ¿cuándo tendremos el próximo libro disponible? Estoy un poco ansiosa por saber más acerca de los personajes, soy Team Austin (sorry, tengo que decirlo!). / I have understood that Human Blend will be a trilogy, when we have the next book available? I am eager to know more about the characters, I'm Team Austin (sorry, I have to say!) 

LP: Es curioso que hagamos equipos, ¿no? Tenemos algunos que son Team Eli y algunos Team Austin. El segundo libro está en producción. Originalmente tenía la intención de liberarlo en abril, pero trabajamos más de lo que me hubiera gustado y he tenido que dejar la publicación a principios de junio, (crucen los dedos), pero no serán más que unos meses más, lo prometo. Puedo decir que los primeros seis capítulos actuará como precuela para Human Blend, suceden antes de que Laney llege a la ciudad de Marion. También le dará algunos antecedentes sobre las criaturas fantásticas presentadas en el libro antes de llegar a donde se quedó el primer libro.

--It is funny we do have teams, don't we? We have some Team Eli and some Team Austin. The second book is in production. I originally intended it for release on april but have worked more than I would have liked and have had to push the release back to early June, (Fingers crossed) But it will not be more than a few more months, I promise. I can tell you that the first six chapters will act as prequel to Human Blend taking place before Laney arrives in the town of Marion. It will also give you some background on the fantasy creatures presented in the book before taking up where the first book left off.
