The Itzel Library [TIL]: ¡Hola, Caris! / Hello dear Caris! It’s a pleasure to have you in The Itzel Library. Let me give you the welcome, and really thanks for taking the time for answering this interview.
Caris Roane [C. R.]: Estoy encantada de estar aquí. Muchas gracias por invitarme.
--I’m thrilled to be here. Thank you so much for having me.
--I’m thrilled to be here. Thank you so much for having me.
Please, tell us a little bit about you, who’s Caris Roane?

Who’s that author that you can read a thousand times & still want to read him/her again?
--I tend to go through fads and my latest is Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series. There are about 20 books and I’m on my third time through. I just love how she writes, very vivid so that you feel like you’re there. She also has a wonderful way of making her characters seem like you know their hearts, their fears, and what they want most from life. She’s great

In your opinion, what’s the best and the worst thing about being a writer?
--The best thing about being a writer is getting to create a world of your own then getting to live in it everyday. The worst part for me is going to sound really funny, but the truth is that it bothers me a lot that I will never get to write ALL the books that I have in my heart to write. There are hundreds of them and there simply isn’t enough time…
Marcus Amargi was my favorite character on this series. You have a special affection for any of the Warriors of the Blood?
--I’m so glad you enjoyed Marcus. He was a pleasure to write and I still get choked up thinking about how hard he took the loss of his sister and how long it took him to forgive Kerrick. Some of his scenes were the most emotional of the series so far because of it. Of course, for me as the writer, I simply don’t have a favorite, except the one I’m writing at the moment. So when I wrote Kerrick, the hero of ASCENSION, he was my favorite, then Warrior Marcus in BURNING SKIES, then I fell hard for Antony in WINGS OF FIRE, and of course Jean-Pierre who you’ll get to know better in BORN OF ASHES (January 3rd), is about the sexiest Frenchman ever…so there ya go! All of my warriors are my favorites!
Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your books or any of your characters?
--There isn’t one song, but I did listen to the soundtrack to the movie, “Inception”, when I wrote WINGS OF FIRE. In many ways, that music reflects the scope of my books, the drama and excitement, the poignancy and romance.
TIL: ¿Cuándo y cómo nació la serie Warriors of Ascension? / Why and when did Warriors of Ascension series born?
--I had been reading one of my favorite paranormal authors, Sherrily Kenyon, and I knew then and there that I had to create my own unique vampire world. Sherrilyn’s Dark Hunter series, based on Greek mythology, is a huge world so at the very least I wanted a world as big as that, so I opted for a world of ‘ascending’ dimensions, in which the next dimension can only be reached by a rite of ascension. It all came together when I realized that the Second Dimension is the world of the vampire. “Wings” came much later, when I was writing one of the first scenes and a death vampire appeared floating and spinning in the air, but sporting huge glossy black wings.
Who was the most difficult character to write about?

If you could be any one of your characters for a day, who would you be and why?
--Truthfully, I would love to jump into my world of the vampire and have wings so I could fly, and have the power to dematerialize, and ‘fold’ things into my hand at will. That would be awesome. But since I wrote Regency for such a long time, I’d also love to jump into Jane Austen’s book, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, but only for a day. I mean, that was Britain in 1800 and they didn’t have hot showers, or running water, or all the things we take for granted today!

--Okay, confession time. I would love to be Endelle for one day. I think her life is too hard to actually want to live it for any extended time, but I would just love to be as free as she is with her words and her actions, at least for a day.

--To date, believe it or not, the most difficult character for me to write has been Thorne. I just finished his book, OBSIDIAN FLAME (May of 2012), and it was tough. I think I wanted so much for his book to be special, since he’s the leader of the Warriors of the Blood, that I really pushed hard to get the book to that level.
Can you tell us about your historical novels, for those who have not had the opportunity to read them?
Is there an ongoing project of which you talk a little?

--My historical novels are all called Regency romance because they’re set in Regency England, or the time period when England was at war with France during the Napoleonic wars. These books are set anywhere from 1810 to 1820. It’s a wonderful time period but I haven’t published in this genre since 2005. Instead, I’ve been studying and expanding my interests and now I’m published in paranormal. BUT, I still long for my Regency world and hope to get back there soon.

He’s a spy for Sixth Earth and in the process had to become a death vampire to prove his loyalty. But he’s had enough and now he’s returned to the fold. But his story is heartbreaking because he’s fractured, guilt-ridden, and part beast, which makes for an exciting yet emotionally draining writing experience. This novel is as yet untitled, but will come out in September of 2012.
Good morning, everyone!
ResponderEliminarI'm so happy to be with the Itzel Library today. I can't wait to hear from you and I'll be answering your questions throughout the day and evening. Like most writers, I'll head back and forth from my writing cave while I wait for your questions and comments. I LOVE to talk about my winged vampire series. So, don't be shy. Ask me anything!
Blessings,
Caris
Morning Caris,
ResponderEliminarHow are you? Can I please please please kipnap JP and Alison and Endelle for a day? I have big plans for them all! I can't wait to meet baby Helena and I can't wait for Endelle to meet her too. Oh the images that conveys just cracks me up.
Blessings,
Sara
Good morning to you, too, Sara!
ResponderEliminarOh, yes, "Auntie Endelle"! Can you imagine?!? If Alison thought she was in trouble before...lol!
As for Jean-Pierre, we should all 'borrow' him for a day...or a night! And the cover for BORN OF ASHES is so him. I love how he holds Fiona and the woman on the cover is exactly how I see her. This was by far the best cover in terms of depicting my characters.
Good luck on the giveaway! We've added wing-based jewelry in support of the series!
Blessings,
Caris
I understand you write about vampires. So... did you have to investigate something about them? Or you just invent them and make them do the stuff you want?
Creo que así esta bien redactada... si?? :P
bueno, esa es mi duda!
Y entro al concurso, esperando tener suerte ^.^
una sonrisa!
Andii,
ResponderEliminarI didn't really investigate vampires, but I had read DRACULA a long time ago, and many of the more recent vampire-based series as well, like Kenyon's DARK HUNTER series and Lara Adrian's BREED series.
So when I decided to create my own series, I invented a vampire mythology based on what was already out there: I have death vampires that act like Dracula but I also have wonderful warrior vampires who take on the bad vampires.
Adding the wings made my vampires different from everything else out there, although when I first came up with the idea it just sort of happened, which was awesome!
Thanks for joining us!
Blessings,
Caris
Sounds like a great series. Thanks for sharing!! Looking forward to reading it.
ResponderEliminarAnything not address in the interview that you really want to share?
bacchus76 at myself dot com
Hi, Donnas,
ResponderEliminarI hope you enjoy my series. You asked if there was anything else I'd like to share and thinking about it I would have to say that nothing surprised me more than just how much I have enjoyed writing a series. I've written 'related' books before, but never a series like this in which the characters are a small group of people...or in this case vampires...who know each other really, really well. The level of camaraderie that can be created within this group is just fantastic. The men, for instance, have known each other for centuries so that essentially they can finish each other's sentences. As the writer, each time I dip into a scene with characters that I've gotten to know extremely well in previous books, well, it's just heaven!
Blessings,
Caris
I adore this author...ADORE! I just finished a review for one of her novels and can't wait to read the next, I loved the interview, always fun getting to know your favorite authors better. Thank you so much for the awesome giveaway! edysicecreamlover18@gmailDOTcom

Krystal,
ResponderEliminarHow great to hear that you enjoy my work! Yay! I love writing this series, as you can probably tell. I'm fully invested in the characters. They feel so real to me. Sometimes, when I walk into a room, I half expect one of the warriors to be there! It's an awesome feeling!
Hope you continue to enjoy the series. So far, Leto's book is a totally amazing experience to write.
An ocean of blessings,
Caris
Roro,
ResponderEliminarNo earrings, huh? Not even to give away to someone you think might love them?!? Think about it... *smiling*.
Hope you enjoy my series!
Blessings,
Caris
Oh these books are high on my wishlist. How could they not be . . . angels - need I say more?!
ResponderEliminarWow, what a jump from Regency romances to paranormal romances, Caris! lol On the other hand, romance is romance in any time frame, right? :)

Chrizette,
ResponderEliminarJust a warning...no angels here, only vampires...winged warrior vampires. But I suppose in the sense that they take vengeance on the evil death vampires, my warriors are like avenging angels.
Hope you get a chance to try out my series!
Blessings,
Caris
Yel,
ResponderEliminarThank you so much for having me on your wonderful blog today. The layout of the interview was absolutely beautiful. I really loved all the pictures you included. I also appreciate the effort required to do the translation. Many, many thanks!

Thanks for the chance!!

Holis I loved the interview, as always. I if I dared, I remember I read in English at school and loved it! ^ ^ I did not read anything from this saga, nothing at all: / Ensim not find the books, do not know why: (
I love that Kenyon was inspired by you is really an amazing writer, and do not doubt that you too:)
How many books does the series? and no, but it is also to tell me like the brotherhood of Ward hehe When you write you you have to strive hard to make images come alive in your head or something that leaves you alone and you have to describe only what best?
on your vampires do you have a curse, or soul? better not tell me, what I read!
espero que este bien :$
besos y gracias, espero entrar al concurso! :D
