The Itzel Library [TIL]: ¡Hola, Linda! / Hi Linda! Thank you so much for taking the time out to talk with us and let us know more about you.
--Thank you for having me, Yel—I’m thrilled to be here!
--Thank you for having me, Yel—I’m thrilled to be here!
Please, tell us a little bit about you, who’s Linda Poitevin?
L.P.: Bien, veamos.
--Well, let’s see. I live just outside Ottawa, which is Canada’s capital, I’ve been married to the same wonderful man for 24 years, and I have three children—identical twin girls who are 20 years old and a third daughter who is 17. I’ve been a stay-at-home mom the entire time, and spent the last nine years home-schooling our youngest… which could explain why writing Sins of the Angels took almost 10 years! J In addition to my novels, I’m also a freelance writer and editor. I love to garden and read, and I love taking long walks with my dog, Charlie.

TIL: ¿Podrías decirnos por favor, qué libro cambió tu vida, y por qué? / Could you tell us please, which book changed your life, and why?
--I don’t think I can single out any one book for that. Reading in general has opened me up to amazing stories and thought and ideas. I’ve always maintained that if you can read, you can learn just about anything…including writing. J
--I don’t think I can single out any one book for that. Reading in general has opened me up to amazing stories and thought and ideas. I’ve always maintained that if you can read, you can learn just about anything…including writing. J
In your opinion, what’s the best and the worst thing about being a writer?
--The best thing is being able to create stories to share with other people. I’ve always written for myself, but sharing the stories and getting reader feedback is so much more satisfying than hiding them under my bed (the stories, not the readers!). The worst part for me is the worry that I might let readers down—I’m utterly obsessive about trying to improve my craft with each new story. I’m my own worst critic, believe me.
TIL: ¡Me encantó Sins of the Angels! ¿Cómo nació éste libro? / I loved Sins of the angels, how was this book born?
--Thank you, Yel, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I kinda like it, too. J The book began with a scene that came to me when I heard the song Angel by Sarah McLachlan. The scene became a story I thought would be a paranormal romance, and then conversations with a good friend of mine began feeding more new ideas. While the story kept a romantic element, it began growing into much more with subplots and darker undertones, and even an element of mystery. Interestingly, the scene in my head that inspired the novel never made it onto paper.

There will be more books for the Grigori Legacy in the future?
--Indeed there will! Book 2, Sins of the Son, will be released March 27, 2012, and there are two additional books planned as well. I’m only contracted for the first two at this point, but if sales go well, I’m hoping my publisher will pick up the remaining books, too.

L.P.: ¡Gracias!
--Thank you! I was thrilled with the cover, and think the artist did a fabulous job of conveying the most important elements of the book. I did had input into the overall appearance, and my publisher was fabulous about taking my ideas into account. I really wanted Alex to be fully clothed and to look professional, for instance, and I didn’t want the supernatural element (the angel) to be too overwhelming. Like I said, I think the artist did a wonderful job!TIL: Se dice que cada autor da un poco de sí mismo en cada página, ¿te sientes identificada con algún personaje de tu libro? / It is said that every author gives a little bit of herself in every page. Do you feel identified with any character, of your book?
--I would agree with that a hundred percent—even if it’s just in blood, sweat and tears, lol! I do identify strongly with Alex, the heroine. I always wanted to be a cop, and like to think that if I’d gone that route, I would have been as good as she is at her job.

If you could be any one of your characters for a day, who would you be and why?
L.P.: ¿Honestamente?
--Honestly? There’s no way I would want to be any one of them for even a day. I have enough difficulty handling the issues in my own life sometimes, and their issues are WAY bigger than mine. I’m quite happy to inhabit their world just as a writer, thanks!

--Sins of the Son is in the editing stages now. All the major revisions have been done (I hope!) and we’re down to copyediting and then proofreading. Even though I’m not yet contracted for book 3, I’m an optimist and so have started writing already—that one is tentatively titled Sins of the Righteous.
Thanks so much for this interview, It's been a pleasure.
L.P.: Lo he disfrutado enormemente, Yel. Gracias de nuevo por invitarme. J
--I’ve enjoyed it thoroughly, Yel—thank you again for inviting me! J

Great interview! Wow, home-schooling three girls, that takes a lot of work plus writing a novel. Have your daughters read Sins of the Angels?
ResponderEliminarThanks for the international chance!
@Van -- only homeschooled the youngest...though I wish I'd kept them all home for it, because it was a blast. And the two older ones have read it, but the younger one (she's dyslexic) is hoping it comes out in audiobook! ;)
ResponderEliminarI am a USA follower :) Thank you for the awesome giveaway!

I'm also an international reader and would like to be entered for a print copy please

Por cierto, i'm an internacional follower :P and i'd like to win the hard copy ^^
