Please, tell us a little bit about you, who’s Gini Koch?

--You know, no one’s asked me this question before. I’m rather touched.

Gini Koch lives in the American Southwest, works her butt off (sadly, not literally) by day, and writes by night with the rest of the beautiful people, while she listens to a lot of rock 'n' roll, particularly Aerosmith, at all times.

Her interests include seeing how often she can ask, "So, have I told you about this plot twist yet?" of her husband before he goes insane, going to rock concerts with her daughter, and training her pets to 'bring it'. Gini started writing to have an excuse to stay up late playing on the computer while listening to music and mooning over pictures of Steven Tyler and Joe Perry.

Now she's expanded her thinking -she moons over a wide variety of hunks in order to keep the visual creative juices flowing. So to speak.

Yes, that’s my official bio. (Yes, that’s about as official as I get.) Digging just a tad deeper, I’m someone who has a lot of voices in her head, all of whom have interesting stories to tell (or at least think they do). Some of those voices populate the Alien/Katherine “Kitty” Katt series, some populate the short stories published under my Anita Ensal pen name, and the rest clamor for their turns in the spotlight that is my word processing program.

The first thing you do when you start a book is:
--I'm a full-time writer, and I work out of an office in my house. I write on a MacBook that's attached to an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse, so I spend most of my work time there. Sometimes I detach the laptop and wander over to other spots for a change of pace.

TIL: ¿Y lo último? / And the last?
GK: Escribo "fin".
--I write "end". And then I go back and re-read it again. I edit as I write, but there’s always things to catch, add, delete, or change in at least 3 read-throughs. When it’s done to my satisfaction, and my crit partner and beta team have read it an approved, I do one more read-through, and then it goes to my agent or editor, depending.

Who was the most difficult character to write about, of all your books?
GK: ¿De escribir?
--To write about? None of them. If it’s difficult, I don’t do it. Writing is joy for me, and when a character is fighting with me, it’s either because they’re the wrong character for the piece, I’ve written something contradictory unintentionally, or my plotting is off. My hindbrain always knows. If so, I fix it or cut the character or the scene. But I don’t find writing my characters hard in any way.

Do you feel identified with any character of your books?
--All of them. I’m the God, they’re all mine. There’s something of me in every character I write; I don’t know how there couldn’t be, for any author, because we’re the Creators, and these characters come out of our minds.

TIL: Touched by an Alien en diez palabras / Touched by an Alien in ten words:
--World’s best accidental badass discovers aliens are real; sparks fly.

Is there an ongoing project of which you talk a little?

--I’m working on Book 5, Alien Diplomacy, right now, but don’t want to give any spoilers away. I live in the Spoiler Free Zone. However, I’m all about the teasers, so I can say that many of those you met in Alien in the Family will be back in Alien Diplomacy.

I also think it’s bad luck to talk about anything that isn’t sold, so I don’t. :-D
